Vocational Training

Objectives:

1. Expand the range of vocational skills training provided by CHO and move the training centre to CHO-owned sites.

2. To expand the mobile skill training centre to Sam Pou Loon, Phnom Pruk, Gom Reung districts in Battambang province and Malai district in Banteay Meanchey province.

CHO provides vocational training in sewing, motorbike mechanics, welding and computer skills. We operate a restaurant and provide food preparation and hygiene training.

Once the students have graduated from their classes, CHO can help them link with the private sector to start their own business. In order to support the graduates, CHO runs courses that teach basic business planning, marketing and accounting. Some students will receive a small-business loan from CHO with which to start their new enterprise. Other families can receive a micro-loan which pays for basic living and enables the children to receive an education.

These projects develop the livelihoods of rural families and enable them to support themselves through learning new skills and basic schooling.

Mechanic
The widespread use of motos as opposed to cars in Cambodia means that teaching young men motorbike repair skills is invaluable.

Sewing
Young women with needlework knowledge can improve their job prospects and even establish their own tailors.
Computer skills
As Cambodia is a developing and increasingly technically-minded nation, ICT skills increase the job prospects and English language skills of this scheme's graduates.

Welding
Years of conflict in Cambodia have meant that wood is in short supply; thus welding knowledge gives graduates much sought after skills.
Printing and design
Through establishing a print shop, CHO aims dually to provide a currently largely unavailable service, whilst also teaching young people new skills.

Coffee Shop
CHO plans to open a coffee shop, in order to provide employment and spread the gospel in a social environment, through weekly music performances etc.
